Like Totally


This tutorial was written by Fiona Pomfrett on March 20th 2012.

Supplies needed:
PSP – I used X4 but any version will do
Tube of Choice
Fonts of Choice – I used LD Phat, LD Jilly Nilly & LD Beatnik
Eye Candy 4000 – Gradient Glow
Mask 31 by Bev at HorsePlay’s Pastures
Like Totally kit by PolkaDotScraps or kit of choice

I used the awesome artwork of Elias Chatzoudis
You will need a license from PTE to use his work
Please do not use Elias’ work without purchasing a license first

Note: When opening items from the kit, pres Shift + D to duplicate and close the original. Always work on the copy

Let’s Start
Open a new canvas 400×400, flood fill with white
Open Paper2 from the kit
Copy and paste as a new layer
Rename Paper 1
Open Frame4 from the kit, resize to 350 pixels wide
Copy and paste as a new layer onto your canvas

Grab your magic wand with these settings:
Mode: Add (shift) / Match Mode: RGB Value / Tolerance & Feather: 0 / Contiguous & Anti-Alias: checked
Select inside the frame
Selections, Modify, Expand by 5 pixels
Selections, Invert
Activate your Paper 1 layer and press delete

Selections, Invert again
Activate your white layer
Selections, Promote selection to layer
Selections, None

On your Paper 1 layer, lower the opacity to 42

Activate Paper 1
Selections, All, Float, Defloat
Add a new raster layer, name it Paper 2
Move this above your Paper 1 layer

Open Paper6 from the kit
Copy and paste into selection
Duplicate this layer

Do not deselect yet
Open your tube of choice
Copy and paste as a new layer – Rename Back Tube
Position inside the frame
Selections, Invert
With your tube layer active, press delete on your keyboard
Selections, None

Activate Paper 2 and change the blend mode to Overlay
Activate your tube layer
Selections, All, Float, Defloat
Selections, Invert
Activate your copy of paper 2 layer and press delete
Activate Paper 1 and press delete
Selections, None
Lower the opacity of copy of Paper 2 to 40
Change the blend mode of your tube to Luminance (legacy)
Lower the opacity to 65

Activate your frame layer and add a drop shadow of choice I used:
V&H: 4 / Opacity: 45 / Blur: 3 / Color: Black

Copy and paste your tube again as a new layer
Move above your frame layer on the layer palette
Add a drop shadow of choice to your tube layer
I used Lokas Software – 3D Shadow

Carefully erase the bottom part of the tube so it’s coming out of the frame

Activate your Back Tube
Open the netting from the kit
Copy and paste as a new layer
Position where you think it looks best
Erase any net that is outside the frame
Lower the opacity to about 50
Add a drop shadow of choice I used:
V&H: 1 / Opacity: 75 / Blur: 2 / Color: Black

Activate your frame layer
Open the Scatter from the kit
Resize to 350 pixels wide
Copy and paste as a new layer
Using your pick/deform tool re-angle the scatter so it’s more inline with the frame
Add a drop shadow of choice I used:
V&H: 1 / Opacity: 75 / Blur: 2 / Color: Black

Activate your tube layer
Open the MusicScatter and resize to 350 pixels wide
Copy and paste as a new layer
Position towards the bottom of your frame
Duplicate the MusicScatter
On the copy
Adjust, Blur, Gaussian Blur – radius set to 3

Activate the white background layer
Selections, All
Open a paper of choice I used Paper 3
Copy and paste into selection
Selections, None

Layers, Load/Save Mask, Load Mask from disk
Look for HorsePlay’s Pasture Mask 31 or one of choice
Source luminance, Fit to layer and Hide all mask checked
Layers, Merge, Merge Group
If needed, duplicate the mask layer

Grab your text tool and select a font
Set your foreground to null, background to a color/paper of choice
Add the first part of your phrase I added LIKE (Font used LD Phat)
Position where it looks best
Use the nodes to stretch it out if required
When happy convert to raster
Effects, Plugins, Eye Candy 4000 – Gradient Glow

Set the color to either Black or White depending on if your text is a light or dark color

Change your font (Font used LD Jilly Nilly), change your background to another color/paper
Add the next part of your phrase I added ‘totally’
Again position where happy
Use the nodes to angle and/or stretch it
Convert to raster
Add the same gradient glow, changing the glow color if needed

Add a sharp drop shadow to both the text layers I used:
V&H: 1 / Opacity: 75 / Blur: 2 / Color: Black

Add your artists copyrights, scrap credits and your own taggers watermark as a new layer (font used FFF Urban)

Change your font (again) (Font used LD Beatnik)
Set your foreground to black, background to null
Width set to 2
Create to vector and Anti-Alias still checked
Add your name
Use the nodes to stretch your text (if needed)
Do Not Convert to raster
Duplicate your text
Hide the copy for now

Open a couple of papers of your choice
Working on the original text layer
On your layer palette, click the little + sign on your vector layer
Now right click on the indented layer and select :
Convert Text to Curves -> As Character Shapes

You will now have another little +sign
Click it again
Each letter will now be indented, sort of on its own layer

Select one of the letters
Right click and select properties
Uncheck the stroke layer
Now click on the fill color box
Set this to a color or paper of choice
Click OK

Repeat for as many letters as you want I only did 3
Click on the letters that you haven’t changed the fill on
Press delete on your keyboard
Now convert this layer to raster

Unhide the copy
Click the little + sign on your vector layer
Now right click on the indented layer and select :
Convert Text to Curves -> As Character Shapes

Click on one of the letters where you changed the fill
Press your delete key
Repeat for the other letters ONLY WHER YOU CHANGED THE FILL

On the other letters
Use the same process but KEEP the stroke box checked
So you have a stroke and fill
Now convert this layer to raster too

Layers, Merge, Merge Down
Now add a gradient glow, use the same basic settings as before

This is the color setting I used

I added the glow again, but this is up to you
Add a drop shadow of choice I used:
V&H: 3 / Opacity: 75 / Blur: 5 / Color: Black

Crop away any excess canvas
Save as a jpg/png
All Done 🙂
