Whadda Ya Mean?

This tutorial was written by Fiona Pomfrett on June 22nd 2012.

Supplies needed:
PSP – I used X4 but any version will do
Tube of Choice
Font of Choice – I used Pieces of Eight
Lokas Software – 3D Shadow
GemsMask-100 by Gems
Pirate Booty kit by DesignsBySarah or one of choice

I used the awesome artwork of PinUpToons
You will need a license from CDO to use his work.
Please do not use Rion’s (PinUpToons) work without purchasing a license first.

Let’s Start
Open a new canvas 400×400 and flood fill with white
Open a paper of choice from the kit, I used paper8
Resize to 250 pixels then copy and paste as a new layer
Layers, Load/Save Mask, Load Mask from Disk
Look for gemsmask-100 or one of choice
Source luminance, Fit to layer and Hide all mask checked
Layers, Merge, Merge Group

Open another paper of choice, I used paper7
Resize to 250 pixels then copy and paste as a new layer
Repeat the mask on this layer too

Hide the top masked paper layer
Activate the bottom one and move up and the right slightly
Unhide the top masked layer
Move this down and to the left slightly
Ensure the top masked layer is the active one
Layers, Merge, Merge Down

On the merged layer
Selections, All, Float, Defloat
Activate your white background layer
Selections, Promote selection to layer
Selections, None
Activate the the top layer again
Layers, Merge, Merge Down

Open frame2 from the kit, resize to 250pixels
Copy and paste as a new layer
Image, Free Rotate, 20 degrees to the right
Adjust, Sharpness, Sharpen
Copy and paste your tube as a new layer
Resize if needed
Position so it sits nicely within the frame or lies down as in my case lol

When happy with the placement of your tube, duplicate it
Move the original below the frame layer on your layer palette
Hide the original for now

Select your freehand selection tool with these settings:
Selection type: Point to point / Mode: Add (shift) / Feather & Smoothing: 0 / Anti-Alias: checked
Activate the copy of tube
Draw a selection round any part you want ‘inside’ the frame

Press delete on your keyboard
Selections, None

Unhide and activate the original tube layer
With your freehand selction tool again
Carefully select round the parts of the tube sticking out
I also included the parts you could see through the frame

Press delete on your keyboard again
Selections, None

Make sure your top copy of tube is the active layer
Effects, Plugins Lokas Software – 3D Shadow

Open the Rum Barrel form the kit and resize to 100pixels high
Copy and paste as a new layer onto your canvas
Position were it looks best
Add a drop shadow of choice I used
V&H: 3 / Opacity: 63 / Blur: 9.90 / Color: Black

Activate your top tube layer
Open net3 from the kit and resize by 45%
Copy and paste as a new layer
Image, Mirror
Image, Free Rotate, 20 degrees right
Move the net into potision over the right hand corner of the frame
Adjust, Sharpness, Sharpen
Erase any net that is below the rum barrel

Open the Sword from the kit and resize by 45%
Copy and paste as a new layer
Image, Free Rotate, 57 degrees right
Move the sword layer below the top tube layer on your layer palette
Add the same drop shadow to the sword as you did to the rum barrel

Draw a selection round the handle of the sword
Selections, Promote selection to layer
On the original, press delete on keyboard
Selections, None
Move the promoted layer above the rum barrel on your layer palette

Select your text tool and choose your font
Set your foreground to null
Background to a paper/color of choice, I used paper8
Create as vector and Anti-Alias both checked
Add your name
Use the nodes to stretch out if needed
Image, Free Rotate, 20 degrees right
When happy with size and position, convert to raster
Add the same drop shadw as used on the sword and barrel

Optional – add any additional text of choice using the same settings

Add your artists coprights, scrap credits and your own taggers watermark as a new layer
Delete the white background layer
Crop away excess canvas
Save as a jpg/png
All Done 🙂
