Supplies needed:
PSP – I used X4 but any version will do
Animation Shop
Tube of Choice
Font of Choice – I used Fall Harvest
Xero – Porcelain, Radiance & Serious Fog
Xenofex 2 – Lightning
Brushes of choice – I used some Swirls by m-brush04 and a text brush (from set 65) by pspagi

I used the awesome artwork of Tatjana Willms
You can purchase her work and a license from DSI.
Please do not use Tatjana’s work without purchasing a license first.

Let’s Start
Open a new canvas 600×175 and flood fill with a dark color from your tube, rename Background
Copy and paste your tube as a new layer, rename Top Tube
Position on the left hand side of the canvas

Duplicate your tube, rename Right Tube
Image, Mirror
Move this tube below your Top Tube on your layer palette

Duplicate Low Tube, then Image, Mirror
Position on the middle of your two tubes
Rename Middle Tube

Edit, Copy Special, Copy Merged
Edit, Paste as a new image
Working on this new image

Edit, Copy
Back on your main image and active Right Tube
Edit, Paste as a new layer – rename Color Depth
Change the blend mode to Soft Light

Back on your second image
Edit, Undo
Effects, Plugins, Xero – Porcelain use the default settings
Effects, Plugins, Xero – Radiance use the default settings

Edit, Paste as a new layer – rename Xero
Lower the opacity to 57

Back on your second image

Change the blend mode to Screen

Your layer palette should now look like this
Background / Middle Tube / Right Tube / Color Depth / Xero / Fog / Top Tube

Activate Top Tube layer
Add a new raster layer name it Brush
Set your foreground to a light color of choice, Background to a dark color
Add brushes of your choice
Put each new brush on it own layer
Play about with opacity levels and blend modes on your brush layers
I have 3 brush layer – Brush 1 & 2 (swirls) set to screen, Brush 3 (text) with an opacity of 59

Add a new raster layer above your Brush layer(s)
Name it L1
Effects, Plugins, Xenofex 2 – Lightning

Add a new raster layer name it L2
Repeat the lightning but press the random seed button once
Add a new raster layer name it L3
Repeat the lightning but press the random seed button once
Hide layers L2 and L3 for now

Add a new layer above L3 – Name Blur Frame
Flood fill with a dark color
Selections, All, Modify, Contract by 4 pixels
Press delete on your keyboard
Selections, All
Add another new raster layer – name Frame
Flood fill with the same dark color
Selections, Modify, Contract by 1 pixels
Press delete on your keyboard
Selections, None
Add a drop shadow of choice to the Frame layer I used
V&H: 1 / Opacity: 100 / Blur: 1 / Color: Light color
Repeat the drop shadow changing the V&H to -1

On Blur Frame layer
Adjust, Blur, Gaussian Blur – radius set to 6

Select your text tool and choose a font
Foreground set to null, Background set to a dark color of choice
Create as vector and Anti-Alias both checked
Add your name
Use the nodes to stretch/angle your text if required
When happy with size and placement, convert to raster
Add the same drop shadow to your text as you used on your Frame, but just the minus one

Ad your artists copyrights and your own taggers watermark as a new layer
At this point you can save as a static tag

To Animate:
Ensure layers L2 and L3 are hidden
Edit, Copy Special, Copy Merged
Open Animation Shop (AS)
Edit, Paste as a new animation

Back to PSP
Hide L1 and unhide L2
Edit, Copy Special, Copy Merged
Over to AS
Edit, Paste after current frame

Back to PSP
Hide L2 and unhide L3
Edit, Copy Special, Copy Merged
Over to AS
Edit, Paste after current frame

Staying on AS
Edit, Select All
Animation, Frame Properies – set this to 20
Save as a gif file
All Done 🙂

Another sample using the art of PinUpToons, which is available at CDO.
I used a smaller tube in front on this sample, and some random texture brushes from pspagi. The effect in the background is Smoke from Eye Candy 4000. Font used on this one is LD Remington Portable
