The Look

Supplies needed:
PSP – I used X4 but any version will do
Image of Choice
Fonts of Choice – I used AssukaCapsSSK & Callie Hand
Xero – Porcelain & Radiance
VanDerLee – Halftone
Pentacom – Color Dot 2012
Toadies – What Are You
Eye Candy 4000 – Gradient Glow
Vix_Mask10 by Vix

I used the awesome artwork of Dan Richards
You can purchase his work and a license from CDO
Please do not use Dan’s work without purchasing a license first.

Let’s Start
Open a new canvas 400×400
Select your preset shape tool, set it Rectangle
Anti-Alias & Create as vector: Checked / Width: 10
Set your foreground to a darkish grey (#202020), background set to null
Draw a rectangle about 123×213
Convert to raster

Image, Rotate, Left by 12 degrees
Effects, Texture Effects, Texture
These are the settings I used but choose one that looks nice
I used Paper Coarse (Corel_15_024)

Duplicate this layer
Image, Mirror
Move the duplicated layer down so you have something like this

Copy and paste your image as a new layer
Move below the original rectangle
Image, Rotate, Left by 12 degrees
Position within the rectangle to your liking
Activate the original rectangle layer
Grab your magic wand with these settings:
Mode: Add (Shift) / Match Mode: RGB Value / Tolerance & Feather: 0 / Contiguous & Anti-Alias: Checked
Select inside the rectangle
Selections, Modify, Expand by 5 pixels
Selections, Invert
Activate the image layer and press delete on your keyboard once
Selections, None

Copy and paste your image again as a new layer
Image, Rotate, Right by 12 degrees
Position to your liking within the other rectangle
Activate the copy of rectangle
Using the same settings with your magic wand click inside the rectangle
Selections, Modify, Expand by 5 pixels
Selections, Invert
Activate the image layer and press delete on your keyboard once
Selections, None

Hide the rectangle layers
Layers, Merge, Merge Visible the two image layers – rename Image
Unhide your two rectangle layers
Erase the part of the top rectangle that you can see inside the bottom rectangle

Hide the image layer
Layers, Merge, Merge Visible the two rectangle layers – rename Frame
Unhide the Image layer

Working on the Image layer
Effects, Plugins, Xero – Porcelain using the default settings
Now Effects, Plugins, Xero – Radiance, again use the default settings

Activate the Frame layer and duplicate
On the copy, Adjust, Blur, Gaussian Blur – radius set to 5
Edit, Copy Special, Copy Merged
Edit, Paste as a new layer
Line the merged new layer up with the original layers
Layers, Arrange, Send to Bottom
Rename this layer Halftone

Resize the Halftone layer to 105% – all layers unchecked
Adjust, Blur, Gaussian Blur – radius of 5
Effects, Plugins, VanDerLee – Halftone

Using your Manual Color Correction tool {mini tut here}
Recolor the Halftone layer grey (#202020)
Lower the opacity to about 58
Duplicate the on the copy
Adjust, Blur, Gaussian Blur – radius of 5

Crop away any excess canvas
Image, Increase Canvas size to 400×400
Central placement selected
Add a new raster layer and flood fill with grey (#3E3D3E)
Layers, Load/Save Mask, Load Mask from Disk
Look for Vix_Mask10 or one of choice
Source luminance, Fit to layer and hide all mask checked
Layers, Merge, Merge Group
Effects, Plugins, Pentacom – Color Dot 2012

Still on the mask layer
effects, Plugins, Xero – Porcelain at default settings
Lower the opacity to about 69

Hide your mask layer
Layers, Merge, Merge Visible the remaining layers
Unhide your mask layer
Move your merged layer down and to the left slightly

Select your text tool and choose a bold font
Set your foreground to null, background to white
Create as vector and Anti-Alias both checked
Add your text of choice – I wrote THE LOOK
Position where it looks best and convert to raster
I selected THE, promoted to layer, deleted the original
Then lowered the opacity of the promoted layer to about 48

Change your font to another font
Leave the settings as they are but change your background color to black
Add more text to overlap the previous – I wrote ‘she’s got’
Position overlapping the previous text
Convert to raster

Keep this font but change your background back to white
Add your name
Using the nodes stretch and angle your text until you are happy
Convert to raster
Duplicate and working on the original
Effects, Plugins, Toadies – What Are You?
Set both values to 11
Lower the opacity to about 42

On the copy of your name
Effects, Plugins, Eye Candy 4000 – Gradient Glow

Lower the opacity of this layer to about 59
Add your artists copyrights and your own taggers watermark as a new layer
Crop away any excess canvas
Save as a jpg/png
All Done 🙂
