Snow-Tastic

Supplies needed:
PSP – I used X4 but any version will do
Animation Shop
Tube of Choice
Fonts of Choice – I used Impact & Chicken Basket
I.C Software – Filters Unlimited 2.0
Eye Candy 4000 – Gradient Glow
Snow Animation of Choice

I used the awesome artwork of Archie Dickens
You can purchase his work and a license from CDO.
Please do not use Archie’s work without purchasing a license first.

Let’s Start
Open a new canvas 400 x 400 and flood fill with grey #808080
Select your Preset Shape tool and set it to rectangle
Anti-Alias and Create as Vector both checked
Line style: Solid / Width: 20
Set your foreground color to white, background set to null
Draw a vertical rectangle on your canvas

Objects, Align, Center in Canvas
Do Not Convert to Raster

Duplicate this layer
On the original layer, Convert to Raster – rename this layer White Frame

Working on the copy
Click the + sign on your layer palette
Now right click on the indented layer on your layer palette
Select Properties
Change the fill color to a color to compliment your tube
Change the width to 10

Convert this layer to Raster – rename Color Frame

Working on your Color Frame
Selections, All, Float, Defloat
Selections, Modify, Contract by 1 pixels
Activate your White Frame layer and press delete
Selections, None
Move the White Frame layer above Color Frame on your layer palette

Activate Color Frame
Adjust, Add/Remove Noise, Add Noise
Random & Monochrome: Checked / Noise: 100
Repeat the noise, but change it to Gaussian, other settings remain the same

Select your Magic Wand with these settings:
Mode: Add (Shift) / Match Mode: RGB Value / Tolerance & Feather: 0 / Contiguous & Anti-Alias: Checked
Select inside the Color Frame layer
Add a new raster layer – name it Fill
Flood fill with a complimentary color of choice
Selections, None
Move this layer below your Color Frame

On the Fill layer
Effects, Plugins, , Filters Unlimited 2.0
Choose Paper Textures on the left side
Now select Canvas Fine

Copy and paste your tube as a new layer
Position within the frames
Activate Fill, Select, All, Float, Defloat, Invert
Activate your tube again and press delete
Selections, None
Rename Tube

Apply the same Canvas Fine texture to your tube
Change the blend mode to Luminance (Legacy)
Duplicate your Fill layer and move above the tube layer
Change the blend mode on this layer to Overlay
Reduce the opacity to 59
Rename Top Fill

Activate your White Frame layer and apply the following drop shadow
V&H: 2 / Opacity: 61 / Blur: 8.91 / Color: Black / Shadow on new layer: Unchecked

Select your text tool and choose a bold font – I used Impact
Create as vector and Anti-Alias both checked
Foreground set to a color of choice, Background set to null
Stroke width set to 2
Add your text of choice – I wrote ‘SNOWTASTIC’
Image, Free Rotate, 90 degrees left
Position along the side of your frame
Use the nodes to stretch so your text is the same height as your frame
When happy, Convert to raster
Adjust, Add/Remove Noise, Add Noise
Gaussian & Monochrome: Checked / Noise: 50
Rename Text Outer

Select your magic wand with the same settings as before
Select inside each letter of your text
Selections, Modify, Expand by 2 pixels
Add a new raster layer and flood fill with a complimentary color of choice
Selections, None
Move the fill layer below the text layer
Rename Text Fill

Add the same drop shadow as used before to your Text Outer layer

Select your text tool again and choose another font of choice
Keep the settings the same, but change the background color
Add your name and position where it looks best
When happy, convert to raster – rename Name
Effects, Plugins Eye Candy 4000 – Gradient Glow

Add the same drop shadow as previously used
Add your artists copyrights and your own taggers watermark as a new layer
Rename Credits
Delete the grey background and crop away excess canvas
At this point your can save as a non-animated tag

To Animate
Add a new raster layer and send it to the bottom – Layers, Arrange, Send to Bottom
Flood fill with white
Hide all layers except Fill, Tube, Top Fill and Text Fill
Edit, Copy Special, Copy Merged
Open up Animation Shop (AS)
Edit, Paste as a new Animation

Remain in AS
Open your snow animation of choice
Scroll across and see how many frames it has – the one I’m using has 10
On your main image, duplicate until you have the same number of frames

On your Snow, Edit, Select All, Edit, Copy
On your main image, Edit, Select All, Edit, Paste into Current Frame
Position your snow over your tube and text fill

Back to PSP
Unhide your white background layer
Activate Text Fill, Selections, All, Float, Defloat
Activate your white background and press delete
Selections, None
Activate Fill layer, Selections, All, Float, Defloat
Activate your white background and press delete
Selections, None

Hide these layers: Fill, Tube, Top Fill and Text Fill
Unhide the other layers: Color Frame, White Frame, Text Outer, Credits and Name
Your White background layer should still be visible too
Edit, Copy Special, Copy Merged
Over to AS
Edit, Paste as a new animation
Edit, Copy
Activate your main image
Edit, Select All, Edit, Propagate Paste
Edit, Paste into current frame
Line it up
Save as a gif file
All Done šŸ™‚

Another sample using the super cute art of Cuddly Rigor Mortis, who is also licensed through CDO.
I didn’t animate this one and have the tube coming out from the frame.
Fonts used are Cobac (big happy), Quirky & Messy (small happy), Pidgen Dance (name) and FFF Urban (credits)
