Here Comes The Rain Again

Supplies needed:
PSP – I used X7 but any version will do
Animation Shop
Tube of Choice
Fonts of Choice – I used Teachers Pet, American Captain and Royal Chicken
Eye Candy 5: Nature – Ripples
Xero – Bad Dream
UF Mask 3 by Sunf – download link unavailable and I am unable to share, sorry
Texture of Choice – I used Texture49 by ArtPlusLove

I used the awesome artwork of Rion Vernon aka PinUpToons
You can purchase his work and a license from CDO.
Please do not use Rion’s work without purchasing a license first.

Let’s Start
Open a new canvas 400 x 400 and flood fill with white
Open your texture and resize to 400 pixels on the smallest side
Copy and paste as a new layer
Crop your canvas back to 400 x 400

Layers, Load/Save Mask, Load Mask from Disk
look for UF Mask 3 or one of choice
Source luminance, Fit to canvas, Hide all mask and Invert checked
Layers, Merge, Merge Group
If your texture is quite light, Duplicate your Mask and then Layers, Merge, Merge Down
Rename Mask
Image, Resize, 90%, all layers uchecked

Copy and paste your tube as a new layer
Position the part you want inside the white frame of the mask
Crop your canvas back to 400 x 400 again
Apply the same mask, using the same settings to your tube layer
Rename Tube
Image, Resize, 90%, all layers uchecked
Change the blend mode to Luminance (legacy)

Select your preset shape tool, set it to rectangle
Create as vector and Anti-Alias both checked
Stroke width set to 6
Foreground set to white and background set to null
Draw a rectangle around the frame part of your mask

Convert to raster and rename Frame
Erase any part of your tube that is outside the Frame

Activate your Mask layer
Add a new raster layer name it R1
Effects, Plugins, Eye Candy 5: Nature – Ripples

Change the blend mode to Luminance (legacy) and reduce the opacity to 80

Add another new raster layer name it R2
Apply the Ripples again but press Random Seed once
Change the blend mode to Luminance (legacy) and reduce the opacity to 80
Add another new raster layer name it R3
Apply the Ripples again but press Random Seed once
Change the blend mode to Luminance (legacy) and reduce the opacity to 80

Select your magic wand with these settings:
Mode: Add (Shift) / Match Mode: RGB Value / Tolerance & Feather: 0 / Contiguous & Anti-Alias: Checked
Activate your Frame layer and select inside
Selections, Modify, Expand by 3 pixels
Selections, Invert
Activate R1 and press delete
Press delete on R2 and R3 too
Selections, None
Hide layers R2 and R3

Select your text tool and choose a small pixel font – I used Teachers Pet
Create as vector checked, Anti-Alias turned OFF
Set your foreground to null, Background to Black or a dark color of choice
Add part of your text – I wrote ‘here comes the’
Position just above the Frame, convert to raster
Rename Text 1

Keep your text tool active and change the font – I used American Captain
Create as vector still checked, but turn your Anti-Alias ON
Foreground still set to null, Background to a color of choice
Add the next part of your text – I wrote ‘RAIN’ (in caps)
Position just under your previous text and convert to raster
Duplicate this text
On the copy – Selections, All, Float, Defloat, Contract by 1 pixel and press delete
Selections, None
Adjust, Add/Remove Noise, Add Noise
Gaussian & Monochrome: Checked / Noise: 100%

On the original text layer
Effects, 3D Effects, Inner Bevel

Activate the copy again
Layers, Merge, Merge Down
Rename Text 2

Text tool active still change your font – I used Royal Chicken
Keep your settings the same, but change your background color
Add the final part of your text – I wrote ‘again’
Position slightly overlapping the previous text and convert to raster
Effects, Plugins, Eye Candy 4000 – Gradient Glow

Rename Text 3
Reposition your text layers if needed

Hide the white background for a moment
Edit, Copy Special, Copy Merged
Edit, Paste as a new layer
Layers, Arrange, Bring to Top
Effects, Plugins, Xero – Bad Dream
Play about with the settings, these are the ones I used

Lower the opacity of this to about 44

Select your text tool again and choose a font
Settings as they were before, change your background color if needed
Add your name
Apply the same gradient glow, changing the color if required
Add a drop shadow of choice – I used:
V: 0 / H: 2 / Opacity: 40 / Blur: 1.98 / Color: Black / Shadow on new layer: Unchecked

Add your artists copyrights and your own taggers watermark as a new layer
Hide your white background and crop away excess canvas
At this point you can save as a jpg/png

To Animate
Unhide your white background layer
Ensure layer R2 and R3 are still hidden
Edit, Copy Special, Copy Merged
Open Animation Shop (AS)
Edit, Paste as a new animation

Back to PSP
Hide R1 and unhide R2
Edit, Copy Special, Copy Merged
Over to AS
Edit, Paste after current frame

Back to PSP
Hide R2 and unhide R3
Edit, Copy Special, Copy Merged
Over to AS
Edit, Paste after current frame
Edit, Select All
Animation, Frame Properties – set this to 25
Save as a gif file
All Done 🙂

Here is another sample using the art of Nicole Brune, who is also licensed through CDO. I used Texture 40, again by ArtPlusLove. Fonts used on this sample are FFF Harmony, Clipper Script, Teachers Pet & DJB BellyButton Innie.
