Cold Outside

Supplies needed:
PSP – I used X9 but any version will do
Animation Shop
Tube of Choice
Fonts of Choice – I used Janda Manatee Solid, Janda Someone Like You and KG Begin Again
DSB Flux – Bright Noise
Eye Candy 4000 – Gradient Glow
Snow Animation
Radiant Frost from Xmassy 1 Bundle by CaritasCreationz

I used the awesome artwork of Maryline Cazenave
You can purchase her work and a license from CDO
Please do not use Maryline’s work without purchasing a license first.

Let’s Start
Open a new canvas 400 x 400 and flood fill with grey #AAAAAA
Open 16 and resize to 250 pixels high
Copy and paste as a new layer – rename Frame
Image, Free Rotate, Right by 10 degrees

Open 3 and resize to 250 pixels wide
Copy and paste as a new layer – rename Ground Snow
Position across the frame, so the bottom part of the frame is below the snow

Duplicate and on the copy – Adjust, Blur, Gaussian Blur – radius set to 5

Open 6 and resize to 250 pixels high
Copy and paste as a new layer – rename Leaves
Position on the right side of the frame
Move below the 2 snow layers
Add a drop shadow of choice – I used:
V: 2 / H: 3 / Opacity: 30 / Blur: 3 / Color: Black / Shadow on new layer: Unchecked

Activate Copy of Ground Snow
Open 2 and resize to 125 pixels wide
Copy and paste as a new layer – rename Pine Cones
Position at the base of the Leaves on the Ground Snow
Add the same drop shadow

Open 10 and resize to 150 pixels wide
Copy and paste as a new layer – rename Ribbon 1
Position at the top of the frame
Position so the large rounded part of the frame is both above and below the frame

Duplicate the Ribbon 1 twice
With the top copy active – rename Ribbon 3
Effects, Plugins, DSB Flux – Bright Noise
Intensity: 15 / Mix: Click Once
Hide this layer

Activate the first copy – rename Ribbon 2
Apply the same Bright Noise, clicking Mix once again
Hide this layer
Activate Ribbon
Apply the same Bright Noise, clicking Mix once again

Grab your selection tool with these settings:
Selection type: Rectangle / Mode: Add (Shift) / Feather: 0 / Anti-Alias: Checked
Select around the section that goes over the frame

Ensure you are on Ribbon 1
Selections, Promote Selection to layer – rename the promoted layer Ribbon 1 Back
On the original Ribbon 1, press delete
KEEP SELECTED
Repeat on Ribbon 2 and Ribbon 3
When done, Selections, None
Move the Ribbon Back layer below the Frame layer
Ensure Ribbon 2 Back and Ribbon 3 Back are hidden

Activate Copy of Ground Snow
Copy and paste your tube as a new layer – rename Tube
Resize if needed, I resized by 45%, all layers unchecked
Add the same drop shadow
Using your selection tool with the same settings
Select any part of the tube you want in front of the Ribbon

Selections, Promote Selection to layer – rename Top Tube
On the original, press delete
Selections, None
On the Top Tube – Layers, Arrange, Send to Top

Activate the tube again
Select any part you want behind the tube

Selections, Promote Selection to layer – rename Bottom Tube
On the original, press delete
Selections, None
On the Bottom Tube, move below the Frame
Erase any excess Bottom Tube that is outside of the frame to the right

Activate the Grey background layer
Open a paper of choice – I used pp7
Resize to 300 pixels
Copy and paste as a new layer – rename Frame BG
Image, Free Rotate, Right 10 degrees

Activate the Frame and select your Magic Wand with these settings:
Mode: Add (shift) / Match Mode: RGB Value / Tolerance & Feather: 0 / Contiguous & Anti-Alias: Checked
Click outside the frame
Selections, Modify, Expand by 10 pixels
Activate Frame Back and press delete
Selections, None
Activate the Frame and add the same drop shadow
Erase any Frame and Frame Back that is below the Ground Snow

Activate Frame Back
Open 21 and resize to 300 pixels high
Copy and paste as a new layer – rename Net
Position so the net is to the left of the frame

Erase any net from below the Ground Snow

Delete the grey background layer
Crop away all excess canvas
Image, Increase Canvas Size to 400 x 400, central placement selected
This will centralise the tag

Open a paper of choice – I used pp1
Resize to 350 pixels
Copy and paste as a new layer – Layers, Arrange, Send to Bottom
Layers, Load/Save Mask, Load Masl from Disk
Look for DBV XmasMask06 or one of choice
Source luminance, Fit to layer and Hide all mask: Checked
Layers, Merge, Merge Group
Erase any mask from below the Ground Snow
Activate Net and change the blend mode to Screen
Add the same drop shadow BUT check the shadow on new layer box

Activate the top layer and select your text tool
Choose a bold font – I used Janda Manatee Solid
Set your foreground to null, Background to a color of choice
Create as vector and Anti-Alias both checked
Type your text of choice, I wrote ‘COLD’
Image, Free Rotate, 80 degrees to to the left
Position where it looks best on the left side of the frame
Do Not Convert To Raster

Duplicate the text, on the original, convert to raster
On the copy, click the + sign on the layer palette
Right click on the indented layer and select properties
Turn off the background color
Change the foreground color to a complimentary color
Change the stroke width to 1.5

Convert to raster and add the same drop shadow as previously used BUT change the H to 2 and uncheck the shadow on new layer box

Select your text tool again and choose another font – I used Janda Someone Like You
Keep your settings the same, changing the background color if required
Type your text of choice, I wrote ‘outside’
Image, Free Rotate, 80 degrees to to the left
Position where it looks best slightly overlapping the previous text layer
Convert to raster
Effects, Plugins, Eye Candy 4000 – Gradient Glow

Add the same drop shadow as used on the previous text layer

Choose another font again – I used KG Begin Again
Keep your settings the same, again changing the background color if needed
Add your name and position where it looks best
When happy, convert to raster
Effects, Plugins, Eye Candy 4000 – Gradient Glow

Add the same drop shadow as used on the previous text layer

Add your artists copyrights, scrap credits and your own taggers watermark as a new layer
Hide the grey background layer
Crop away any excess canvas
At this point you can save as a jpg/png

To Animate
Activate the grey background layer and flood fill with white
Hide all layers EXCEPT Frame Back
Edit, Copy Special, Copy Merged
Open Animation Shop (AS)
Edit, Paste as a new animation
Duplicate until you have 9 frames
Open the Snow, Edit, Select All, Edit, Copy
On your Frame Back image, Edit, Select All, Edit, Paste into current Frame
You can close the snow now
Minimise the Frame Back for a moment

Back to PSP
With Frame Back still the active layer
Selections, All, Float, Defloat
Press delete on the Mask and White Background layer
Selections, None
Layers, View, View All
Now Hide Ribbon Back 2, Ribbon Back 3, Ribbon 2 and Ribbon 3
Edit, Copy Special, Copy Merged
Over to AS
Edit, Paste as a new animation

Back to PSP
Hide Ribbon Back 1 and Ribbon
Unhide Ribbon Back 2 and Ribbon 2
Edit, Copy Special, Copy Merged
Over to AS
Edit, Paste after Current Frame

Back to PSP
Hide Ribbon Back 2 and Ribbon 2
Unhide Ribbon Back 3 and Ribbon 3
Edit, Copy Special, Copy Merged
Over to AS
Edit, Paste after Current Frame

Staying in AS
Edit, Select All, Edit, Copy
Click on Frame 3
Edit, Paste after current Frame
Click on Frame 6
Edit, Paste after current Frame
Click on Frame 1, Edit, Select All, Edit, Copy
Activate your Frame Back
Edit, Select All
Edit, Paste into the current frame
Save as a gif
All Done 😀
