Dia De Los Muertos

Supplies needed:
PSP – I used X9 but any version will do
Tube of Choice
Fonts of Choice – I used Mona Lite and Hysteria
Pentacom – Jeans
Xero – Porcelain
Lokas Software – 3D Shadow

I used the awesome artwork of Enys Guerrero
You can purchase her work and a license from CDO
Please do not use Enys’ work without purchasing a license first.

Let’s Start
Open a new canvas 650 x 250
Set your foreground to a dark color of choice from your tube
Set your background to a lighter complimentary color from your tube
Change your foreground to a fore/back gradient mix
Style: Linear / Angle: 0 / Repeats: 0 / Invert: Unchecked
Flood fill your canvas with your gradient
Rename Backgorund

Effects, Distortion Effects, Pixelate
Block width: 1 / Block height: 20 / Symmetric: Unchecked

Select your selection tool with these settings:
Selection type: Rectangle / Mode: Add (Shift) / Feather: 0 / Anti-Alias: Checked
Select the top, third and fifth lines

Selections, Promote Selection to Layer
Selections, None
Rename the Promoted Selection – Stripe 1
Effects, Plugins, Pentacom – Jeans

Grab your selection tool again with the same settings
Activate the Background layer
Select the second, fourth and sixth lines

Selections, Promote Selection to Layer
Selections, None
Rename the Promoted Selection – Stripe 2
Effects, Plugins, Pentacom – Jeans
Use the same settings as before

Still on Stripe 2
Image, Mirror
Change the blend mode on both Stripe layers to Multiply

Activate the Background layer
Grab your selection tool again, with the same settings
Select the bottom part of your tag

Selections, Promote Selection to layer
Selections, Modify, Contact by 3 pixels
Press delete
Keep Selected
Rename the Promoted Selection Bottom Edge

With Bottom Edge active
Press Shift + G to open Gamma Correction
Set all 3 values to 0.7
Repeat the Gamma Correction again with the same settings

Activate the Background
Copy and paste your tube as a new layer – rename Bottom Tube
Position so part is within the Bottom Edge

Selections, Invert
Press delete
Selections, None
Change the blend mode to Screen and reduce the opacity to about 30

Activate the top layer on your layer palette
Copy and paste your tube as a new layer – rename Tube
Position on the opposite side to Bottom Tube
Effects, Plugins, Xero – Porcelain

Duplicate the tube and on the copy – Adjust, Blur, Gaussian Blur – radius set to 15
Change the blend mode to Soft Light

Activate the original Tube layer
Add a drop shadow of choice – I used Lokas Software – 3D Shadow

Set your foreground color the color of your Bottom Edge
Add a new raster layer and flood fill with your foreground color
Selections, All, Modify, Contract by 3 pixels
Press delete
Selections, None

Select your text tool and choose a font – I used Mona Lite
Set your foreground to null, background set to a dark color/black
Create as vector and Anti-Alias both checked
Add your text of choice – I wrote ‘DIA DE LOS MUERTOS’
Position where it looks best and convert to raster
Change the blend mode to one that suits, I used Luminance (legacy)

Select another font – I used Hysteria
Keep your settings the same, changing the background color if needed
Add your name and position where it looks best
When happy, convert to raster
Add a drop shadow of choice – I used:
V: 2 / H: -3 / Opacity: 50 / Blur: 7.92 / Color: #111111 / Shadow on new layer: Unchecked

Add your artists copyrights and your own taggers watermark as a new layer
Save as a jpg/png
All Done 🙂
