Off Duty Mermaid

Supplies needed:
PSP – I used X9 but any version will do
Tube of Choice
Font of Choice – I used Queenland
SplatterMask02 by Karma
Ships Ahoy CDO Collab 2019 – I used the portion by CuriousCreativeDreams

I used the awesome artwork of Jennifer Janesko
You can purchase her work and a license from CDO
Please do not use Jennifer’s work without purchasing a license first.

Let’s Start
Open a new canvas 500 x 500 and flood fill with grey #6F7B79
Open 13 and resize to 75%
Copy and paste as a new layer – rename Net
Move down and to the bottom right of your canvas
Duplicate and on the copy – Adjust, Blur, Gaussian Blur – radius set to 5
Reduce the opacity to 69

Open 29 and resize to 75%
Copy and paste as a new layer – rename Buoy
Position on the top left part of the Net
Select your Free Hand Selection tool with these settings:
Selection type: Point to point / Mode: Add (shift) / Feather & Smoothing: 0 / Anti-Alias: Checked
Hide the Buoy and you will see a line running down the net
Draw a selection round that line

Selections, Modify, Feather by 2 pixels
Activate Net – Selections, Promote Selection to Layer – rename Top Net
Activate Copy of Net – Selection, Promote Selection to Layer – rename Top Net Blur
Selections, None

Move Top Net and Top Net Blur above the Buoy layer
On Top Net Blur – reduce the opacity to 69
You should have something similar to this

Activate the grey background
Open 19 and resize to 65%
Copy and paste as a new layer – rename Barrel
Position to the right of your Buoy, behind the net layers
Add a drop shadow of choice – I used:
V: 2 / H: 4 / Opacity: 40 / Blur: 5.94 / Color: Black / Shadow on new layer: Unchecked

Open 7, copy and paste as a new layer – rename Leaves
Move below the Barrel layer
Position behind the Barrel and Buoy where it looks best
Duplicate and on the copy, apply the same Gaussian Blur as used before
Reduce the opacity to 63
On the original, add the same drop shadow as used on the Barrel

Open 6, copy and paste as a new layer – rename Rocks
Position so part is inside the Buoy
Erase any that is outside the Buoy
Add the same drop shadow

Activate Copy of Net
Open 22 and resize to 35%
Copy and paste as a new layer – rename Shell 1
Position along the bottom of the Net
Then move below both the Net layers
Add the same drop shadow

Activate the Buoy layer
Open 22 again and resize to 25%
Copy and paste as a new layer – rename Shell 2
Position where it looks best on top on the Net
Add the same drop shadow

Open 36 and resize to 25%
Copy and paste as a new layer – rename Starfish
Position where it looks best and add the same drop shadow

Open 23 and resize to 45%
Copy and paste as a new layer – rename Bottle
Position where it looks best and add the same drop shadow

Activate Copy of Net
Copy and paste your tube as a new layer – rename Tube
Resize if needed, I resized to 65%, all layers unchecked
Position so the top part of higher than the Buoy
Add the same drop shadow

Grab your selection tool with these settings:
Selection type: Rectangle / Mode: Add (Shift) / Feather: 0 / Anti-Alias: Checked
Select the top part of the tube that is covered by the Buoy

Selections, Promote Selection to layer – rename Top Tube
On the original tube layer – press delete
Selections, None
Move the Top Tube layer above the Buoy layer
On the original tube layer, erase any tube you can see at the bottom of Buoy

Activate the grey background layer
Open a paper of choice – I used 4
Resize to 500 pixels
Copy and paste as a new layer – rename Mask
Layers, Load/Save Mask, Load Mask from Disk
Look for Karmalized_Mask-Splatter02 or mask of choice
Source luminance, Fit to layer and Hide all mask: Checked
Layers, Merge, Merge Group
Resize to 90%, all layers unchecked
Adjust, Blur, Gaussian Blur – radius set to 3

Hide the grey background layer
Crop away all excess canvas
Edit, Copy Special, Copy Merged
Paste as a new layer – rename Top
Layers, Arrange, Bring to Top
Increase the canvas size to 500 x 500, central placement selected
Adjust, Blur, Gaussian Blur – radius set to 5
Lower the opacity to 32

Select your text tool and choose a font – I used Queenland
Set your foreground to null, background to a dark color of choice
Create as vector and Anti-Alias both checked
Add your name and position where it looks best
Convert to raster
Duplicate and working on the copy
Using your Manual Color Correction tool (mini tut here)
Recolor to a lighter color

Still on the copy – Effects, 3D Effects, Inner Bevel

Activate the original layer again
Effects, Image Effects, Offset

Add the same drop shadow to this layer

Add your artists copyrights, scrap credits and your own taggers watermark as a new layer
Crop away any excess canvas
Save as a jpg/png
All Done 😀
